Fire Safety Management - Fire Alarms

What would happen if the fire alarm wasn't activated in
the case of fire?

Imagine if a fire were to occur at your place of work and the person who discovered the fire, didn't raise the alarm. What is the worst that could happen?
(a) Occupants would not be aware that there was a fire and would carry on with their activity?
(b) The person who discovered the fire would desperately try to extinguish the flames, or perhaps shout "fire" and leave the premises?
(c) The fire could spread rapidly, trapping occupants within the premises?

What is the worst that could happen?
LOSS OF LIFE!!

Fire alarm call points are normally situated along main escape routes, yet surprisingly, many of these units are not clearly identified. The assumption is made that occupants know where these units are located and know how to activate them.

Under formal risk assessments, studies have shown that in real emergency situations, occupants may panic, especially in the scenario of total power loss of the normal lighting and very often, forget to raise the alarm. Think of the King's Cross or Bradford Football Stadium fires. In both of these cases, no one called the Fire Brigade!

So, what is the solution to this problem?

It is clearly laid down in the Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals Regulations 1996 that owners and managers have an obligation to ensure that fire fighting appliances are provided, that the equipment is clearly identified, easy to locate and that staff have adequate training in the operation.

Photoluminescent fire alarm identification signs assist owners and managers in meeting this requirement.

Unlike other fire alarm signs, these are unique in that even in the event of total power failure of the normal lighting, occupants will still be able to quickly locate and identify their fire alarm call point!

Manufactured from JALITE AAA photoluminescent materials, these labels only require exposure to normal illumination i.e: daylight, tungsten filament or fluorescent lighting to activate its incredible performance!

Illustrated below are the types of signs required.

Designed in accordance with Domestic and International Standards, these signs will help assist you in meeting your obligations. Furthermore, when used in conjunction with your fire procedure training, you can be assured that occupants will know the exact location of the fire alarm call points and how to activate them!
